Rain hammered against the window, mirroring the relentless drumming in Amelia's head. She slumped onto the couch, the cushions offering little resistance to her weight. A small, leather-bound notebook lay half-hidden beneath the coffee table. She didn't recognize it. Curiosity, a rare visitor these days, pricked at her. Liam kept his journals locked away.

Opening the cover, Amelia recognized his handwriting. “Climb a mountain,” she read, her brow furrowing. Liam, who preferred the gentle slopes of their backyard. The next entry was equally jarring: “Learn to speak Italian.” He’d struggled with basic Spanish. Amelia flipped through the pages, her heart sinking with each improbable goal.
